Beijing

Another very busy week has passed – we discovered Beijing. We did the usual tourist sites (Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Summer Palace, Great Wall, Temple of Heavenly Peace, Lama and Confucius Temples as well as the Drum and the Bell Towers. However, we did all that in our own pace, which made it very much enjoyable and let us really soak up the atmosphere.

What’s more, we also had plenty of time to enjoy the local cuisine, speak Roast Duck as well as Hot Pot, Dumplings and we even found Roland’s favorite Jianbing (Chinese Pancakes).

We also did some shopping, including some warm clothes in preparation for Switzerland as well as having the boys Chinese names written in beautiful calligraphy on scrolls and carved in stone stamps.

And – not only did I get a chance to speak some Chinese and people actually understood what I was trying to say – the boys realised that this language is indeed spoken somewhere and might (somewhen in the far future) will become valuable for them (which might help them understand why we keep sending them for Mandarin classes…).

Zai jian!
